So I've noticed over the last few years, that Cthulhu (and eldritch beings like him) are having sort of renaissance in movies and video games. We had Annihilation (movie based on a book with strong Lovecraftian influences) in 2018 and The Color Out of Space this year (no spoilers please, haven't seen it yet!). On the game side we've had the Call of Cthulhu game (though I believe that's based off of a pen-and-paper RPG), The Sinking City, Borderlands 3 had an expansion feels straight out of a Lovecraft story, and the MOBA Smite is adding Cthulhu to its roster of gods and mythological figures. The point I'm getting at is why are the Old Ones becoming more popular in our culture? Has the media machine just turned to Lovecraft's stories because its original ideas are running dry? Are people just into darker stuff because of the chaotic times we live in? I would entertain the notion of it being a sign that Cthulhu's awakening is near, but I don't want to sound like one of those Christians that believe they're living the End Times and who devote their resources into getting people "ready", instead of trying to make world a better place.

I feel like its mainly because the world is beginning to change, not in the Cthulhu awakening kind of way but more in the sense that more people are moving into a new age and humanities taste in literature entertainment, and philosophy are evolving, I see this as a great opportunity for us to grow.
I’m not sure if there is a conclusive answer, definitely a few contributing factors for this. It is good to see more people becoming open-minded to ideas they might previously have been forced to suppress.
