I'm new to The Cult but not the Left Hand Path. I wouldn't consider myself a Cultist (yet), but I'm curious and seeking more knowledge.
I'm in my final year of University studying Geography and Geospatial Science. It's been a fun 4 years, but I'm so tired, and the pandemic has made this last year extremely difficult.
I have a few hobbies when not doing anything school-related. I'm a fan of the outdoors, so I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and camping. I also have a decent plant collection so far, with a small garden on my windowsills at the moment. I also play video games when the feeling strikes me.
I look forward to my journey here.
Hello and Welcome wendighost! I hope that you find what you're looking for here among us, there are other platforms we use that draw some of the more social groups (Facebook, Amino app, and Discord). You seem like a interesting individual, mind sharing what drew you to the Cult? Perhaps what pulled you from other Left Hand Path groups? Or even just what draws you to Lovecraftian elements?
Hmmm... there are multiple reasons related to each of your questions.
How I found myself here is interesting. I'd been listening to a lot of Mythos lore recently so I got curious about the lore of the cult in the Mythos. Acting on that curiosity and a whim I googled "cthulhu cult", expecting to fall down a Lovecraft Wiki rabbit hole. I clicked on the first link, which was this website, and fell down an entirely different rabbit hole. I'm not sure if I was guided or my brain was just doing its own thing, but here I am.
I stuck around and read more because I love cosmic horror. It's one of the few horror subgenres that have truly scared me. I have yet to be scared by Lovecraft's work, but there are others that have. I also like the aesthetic of Lovecraft and other's works. Also, as soon as I heard the philosophy of cosmicism I instantly agreed. As someone with a scientific background, it hit differently than related philosophies, like nihilism. The objective neutrality of it speaks well to many parts of me.
I think that's part of what draws me to the Cult, among others. Another part is possibly the Call, but I'm not sure it that's truly it. Part of me feels it, another part resists or questions it. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe not. Only time will tell what I really feel. For now, I'm content to indulge my curiosity and continue to learn and grow.
You sound like an interesting individual and a good addition should you choose to fully join. The Cosmicism aspect i feel speaks to a good many more people than those people realize. That conflicting believe or resist part you mentioned is actually not a bad thing in my opinion, as the Cult is ever evolving and through the scientific method adapts to new reasoning. There is a pinned post I believe in the Welcome category by a Cultist named J that you may wish to read, helped me with a similar conflict.
